600 & Rising is a for-impact advocacy group for US-based Black talent working in advertising and PR roles. Role summary

 

600 & Rising, in partnership with Hold The Press, is looking for an Executive Director to lead the organizations through an upcoming period of growth. This position is ideal for an entrepreneurial thinker with activist leanings, who has strong communications with strategic insight and previous digital campaigning experience.

This role will focus on 600 & Rising’s core areas of impact, driven by the 12 steps agencies across the US have committed to change with.

Our collective has a close-knit culture and with that, we place a high priority on communication, recognition, and collaboration. The right candidate will be in alignment with our culture and will continue to enhance it through positive leadership.

Responsibilities

To succeed as the Executive Director, we’ve identified two areas of responsibility:

 
 

Campaigns & Programs

Collaborate on short and long-term strategies and launch them into campaigns that target real-world change in the Black community.

Be an effective presenter with a strong personal narrative to this work to talk about the vision and work of 600 & Rising and Hold the Press in a way that is aligned with organizational mission values.

Industry & Community Engagement

Develop and maintain relationships with leaders from industry trade associations, using the vision and goals of 600 + HTP to drive progress in equity through representation and policy

Leverage power of Black community to engage with agency and corporate leadership to ensure the needs of Black talent come first and foremost in internal policy and systems reform.

Cultivate relationships with similarly-minded organizations and initiatives throughout US and identify synergies for collaborative efforts with advisory council, partners and volunteer task forces.

Qualifications

The right candidate will work together with the founding board of directors to successfully achieve strategic objectives where strategic thinking and writing abilities are paramount. While experience in a similar role in the social justice sector is not required, experience in communications and a commitment to social justice is.

 

A qualified candidate should have:

7+ years of experience in advertising, partnerships, or non-profit experience, along with the ability to create a culture of transparency and communication throughout the organization. 

An entrepreneurial spirit who is able to develop and implement strategic plans that meet the organization's goals and objectives. Developing positive relationships with key stakeholders, including shareholders and government agencies is paramount. 

Exceptional communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate with internal team members as well as external partners, consultants, and media outlets in a fast-paced environment. 

Strong sense of accountability, with the ability to champion the needs of talent, but work as a positive agitator for corporate executives.

Exceptional organization skills as you are in charge of keeping track of critical components in this role, where we set the guideposts for industry progress. Experience working alongside a board of advisors/directors is a plus.

Proactively address challenges within the marketing community—and how our work influences society— to advance business interests and a commitment to confidentiality.

Expected salary range

 

$140-160K
